Alprostadil also know as Prostaglandin E₁ (PGE₁) is in the vasodilator family of medications. It works by opening blood vessels and relaxing smooth muscle.
It is a naturally occurring prostaglandin which is used as a medication and by injecting into the penis or placed in the urethra is used to treat erectile dysfunction.

Alprostadil interacts with some medications and can also have various common and less common side-effects.
This medication does not protect you from HIV (Human Immuno deficiency virus) or STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).
